St. James Episcopal Church - Child Care Assistant Director Job Description

Job Type: Part-Time
Pay: $15 - $25/hour - based on experience Schedule: Sundays, 8:00am to 11:00am

This job reports directly to the Church Rector.

We are looking for a caregiver that has experience working with children ages 1-6. The ideal candidate will provide safe, fun, developmentally appropriate enrichment in the church child care room. Candidates do not need to be Episcopalian, but do need to be comfortable working in a church setting. The successful candidate will undergo a mandatory background check and complete Safe Church Training upon being hired.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing safe, enriching childcare to children aged 1- 6, occasionally older children.

  • Maintaining a clean and safe space for children to play. 

  • Candidate must commit to being on time every Sunday to open and operate the child care room from 8:00am to 11:00am, including holidays and other special church services related to major christian holidays like Christmas and Easter.  Approved absences for child care staff require a two-week notice.  Child Care staff must provide a minimum of 2 hours’ notice for unplanned absences.

  • Typical child care duties: feeding, diapering, leading activities or games, crafts, and play-based, spiritually enriching engagement

  • All child care staff must help to maintain accurate accounting of all children in the child are room and stay in the child care room until all children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child’s registration form.

  • The Child Care Assistant Director will take direction from the Child Care Director Director and will provide support and instruction to other Child Care Staff or Volunteers when needed.

  • The Child Care Assistant Director must adhere to the Utah Episcopal Diocesan Policy on Protection of Children and Youth from Abuse and sign a code of conduct. 

 

Core Competencies:

  • Experience in caring for children between 1-6 years with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities.

  • Dependability is key to this role. Tardiness/excessive absences will result in termination of employment.

 

License/Certification:

CDA credentials or other certifications preferred, not required
CPR/First Aid Certification required. If not current, training will be provided.
